Video: Stefan Sagmeister - The Power Of Time Off
I was so inspired after watching this TED Talk by Stefan Sagmeister. He speaks about how he takes a year-long sabbatical from his work every 7 years, and shares what this has done for his creativity, and how the ideas, experiences and experiments undertaken during this time go on to inform the next 7 years of his career. The idea of taking a sabbatical is not something I’ve ever considered, though after watching this I find myself starting to think about how I can incorporate something similar into my working life each year. A moment in this talk that really resonated with me was when Stefan speaks about how his daily work is mainly for marketing and promotion purposes, but that he wants/needs his creativity to be more than that. With this in mind, he devotes his sabbaticals to working on projects that allow him to apply his creative skills for entirely different purposes. This is definitely a must-watch as the year draws to a close and we all start dreaming up how we want 2019 to look for our creative careers.
